Lot 26 Wedgwood Tri-Color Jasperware Footed Cup
This Wedgwood tri-color jasperware cup is constructed from unglazed, vitrified stoneware. The vessel features a wide-mouthed, caudle-style form with a single arched, ear-shaped handle, set upon a short, flared pedestal foot. The decoration is executed using a sprigged-on relief technique in three colors. The body of the cup is a matte off-white jasper, providing a neutral ground for the applied ornamentation in sage green and a lilac-pink shade. A horizontal band of green oak leaves and acorns encircles the rim. The main body is decorated with alternating vertical sprigs consisting of large sage green fern fronds and stylized lilac-colored floral stems. Smaller green leaf sprigs are applied to the handle and the pedestal foot. The base of the cup features the impressed mark WEDGWOOD and V. Also present on the base is a circular paper label with blue printed text reading SHINDERMAN COLLECTION, with the number 247 handwritten in pencil at the center. This tri color cup represents a classic example of 19th-century English stoneware production.
